  • Canine Training

    IPC’s canines receive basic training prior to being assigned to a handler. Our canines undergo the following at a minimum:

    • Selection Testing (Temperament, Drives, Agility, Medical, Social Ability)
    • Controlled Aggression (Bite / Release, Call-Off / Recall, Search & Call-by)
    • Explosives Imprinting — Odor recognition and basic scent discrimination
    • Basic Tracking
  • K-9 Team Training

    Once our handlers and canines are assigned, they undergo a single-purpose detection K-9 Handler Course or a dual-purpose patrol / explosives K-9 Handlers Course.

    Single-Purpose K-9 Handler Course (3 weeks):

    • Orientation, K-9 Grooming and Health
    • K-9 First Aid / Safety
    • Explosive Odor Characteristics
    • Odor Vacuums and Travel
    • Leash Control
    • Explosive Search Patterns
    • K-9 Legalities & Limitations
    • Explosive Detection Searches (Buildings, Vehicles, Warehouses, Open Areas)
    • K-9 Tactics (Detection Scenarios)
    • Final Examination

    Dual-Purpose Patrol / Explosives Handlers Course (5 weeks) includes all of the above and:

    • Tracking / Trailing
    • Obedience
    • Handler Protection
    • Human Detection (Buildings, Open Areas, Wooded, Industrial)
    • Control Aggression (Bite / Release, Call-Off / Recall, Search & Call-by)
    • K-9 Tactics (Vehicle Bail-Outs, Vehicle Extractions, Gunfire, Scenarios)
    • Final Examination
